A shuttlecock having a vane element and a head secured thereto, the vane element comprising an annular series of spaced vane stems moulded from a flexible plastics material integrally with a base disc and a feather member, or members constructed from a thin flexible plastics material in the form of an open weave or mesh fabric and attached either one to each stem or as a continuous strip to all the stems. The vane stems 1 are moulded integral with an annular wall 4 extending from a circular disc 2 and a feathered element 3 is secured by means such as adhesive, stitching or bonding to the tapered end of each stem. A piece of fabric 5 is stitched to the disc and a disc 7 of cork, rubber or plastic material is secured by adhesive to the disc. A hollow domed cap 9 of rubber is fitted over the disc 7, and fabric 5, and stitched together, a flange 9a on the cap abutting the disc surface. A strip 11 of adhesive tape covers the stitching. In another embodiment, a nylon mesh strip is glued to the stems. The cap fits over a wall extending from the disc 2 and is stitched thereto. The cap and wall may screw engage. The disc 2 may have a central air aperture. The cap may be made of cork glued to the fabric on the disc 7, the cork and disc 7 having a leather cover stitched to the disc which is made of rubber. The cork cap may be glued to the fabric 5 on the disc 2, the disc and cap being screwed together.
