Abstract

The space within the cap of an electric incandescent lamp is filled with a resin foam produced by heating a mixture of a novolac and hexamethylene tetramine without applying external pressure, the novolac being obtained by reacting 1 mol. of phenol with 0.65-0.75 mol. of formaldehyde. Preferably 10-20 parts of hexamethylene tetramine are used per 100 parts of novolac and the heating is effected at 120-180 DEG C. or somewhat higher. A filler, e.g. calcium carbonate, gypsum, graphite or ground resin waste may be added to the foam-producing mass. An example describes the joining of a cap to a bulb (see Group XI) wherein a mixture of 10 parts of the novolac, 3 parts of calcium carbonate and 2 parts of hexamethylene tetramine is introduced into the cap after being compressed into a tablet or pill.
