Abstract
1,259,910. Phenol/hydrocarbon/formaldehyde resins. NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT PLASTICHESKIKH MASS. 26 March, 1970, No. 14764/70. Heading C3R. Phenol/aromatic hydrocarbon/formaldehyde resins are produced by condensing a eutectic mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons with phenol and formaldehyde in the presence of an acidic catalyst. The mixture of hydrocarbons may comprise pyrene and fluoranthene or coronene or consist of a single compound of only technical grade purity such as crude anthracene. The formaldehyde may be formalin or alphapolyoxymethylene. The acidic catalyst may be ZnCl 2 or HCl. The resins may be compounded with a mineral or organic filler and a curing agent to produce moulding materials. In examples, the compounding ingredients are urotropin (hexamethylene tetramine), kaolin, nigrosine, line, stearine and wood flour.
