Abstract
A fire-resisting insulating member, such as a board, plate, sheet, frame, shell, made from a compressed material of which at least 75% by weight is a mixture of expanded cork and asbestos wool particles in the proportion 30-70 parts asbestos to 70-30 parts cork, with or without water-insoluble resin (e.g. urea-phenol resin) or glue and/or a filler such as kaolin, is produced by mixing raw, preferably moistened cork and asbestos wool, and filling the mixture, together with any fillers or adhesive (resin or glue), into a closed perforated mould wherein it is heated by steam at a pressure of at least 10 atmospheres to a temperature above 150 DEG C.
