Abstract

723,019. Photographic material. GEVAERT PHOTO-PRODUCTEN N.V. Feb. 5, 1953 [Feb. 5, 1952], No. 3018/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 98 (2). An autopositive photographic material is prepared by adding to a silver halide emulsion layer a reducing agent and a compound of a metal more electropositive than silver, in quantities sufficient to fog the emulsion. A desensitizer (e.g. a desensitizer containing a N0 2 group, an acyclic or cyclic compound containing a -S-S-CS- grouping, or a cupric salt) may also be added. Exposure is preferably effected with light of 4000 to 4800A. Mere development of the material produces a homogeneous grey filter. In example 1, aqueous solutions of auric chloride and stannous chloride are added to a silver bromiodide emulsion before the second ripening, and Pinakryptol Yellow is added before coating. In example 2, the solutions are added before the first ripening, and a desensitizer (bis - 2 - (3 - methyl - 6 - nitrobenzthiazole) - trimethinecyanine toluene sulphonate) before coating. In example 3, auric chloride and hydrazine hydrate are added before the second ripening, and a desensitizer (Crystal Violet) before coating, and in example 4, ammonium chloropalladate and stannous chloride are added before the second ripening and a desensitizer (Phenosafranine) before coating. According to the Provisional Specification, the reducing agent or the metal compound or both may be added to a layer adjacent to the emulsion layer, and the two compounds may be added to different layers.
