Abstract

722,931. Stretching yarns &c. BRIGHT & BROS., Ltd., J. July 1, 1953 [May 24, 1952], No. 13204/52. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). Apparatus for continuously stretching cords, yarns, and like filamentary materials in the wet state comprises two rollers a and b having parallel axes al and bl and each comprising a portion having grooves of increasing diameter a2 and b<SP>2</SP> and a portion having grooves of uniform maximum diameter a<SP>3</SP> and b<SP>3</SP>, there being means for heating one or both rollers, whereby the material may be stretched by looping it around the grooves of the rollers alternately and leading first to grooves of smaller diameter then to grooves of larger diameter and finally to grooves a3, b3, whereon the material is retained during heating and drying to fix its stretch. The rollers may differ in diameter with the grooves in proportion so that the surface speeds groove for groove are the same when one roller is driven from the other by the cord lengths extending therebetween. Means for wetting the material prior to engagement by the rollers may be provided.
