Abstract

722,617. Vacuum and pressure apparatus for raising liquids. BRASSINGTON, J. E. April 17, 1953. [April 17, 1952; April 30, 1952] Nos. 9619/52 and 10820/52. Class 102 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] A tank 10 for transporting liquids is mounted on a wheeled carriage 11 and is provided with a cover 25 fitted with a connector 26 for a source of vacuum, an air vent valve 28 and a vacuum gauge 29. A float 37 is connected to a stem 34 which carries a valve 36 which cuts off the connection to the source of vacuum when the liquid level in the tank rises. A valve 35 slidable on the stem 34 closes the passages 33 when the pressure in the tank is below that in the chamber 31. The tank has a valve controlled opening 45 to which a pipe 53 may be attached for filling and to which a spreader is attached when the tank is emptied. The valve 46 is actuated through linkage from a handle 48. The spreader is in the form.of a circular plate 55 attached to radial arms 56 and spaced from the end of the pipe 54 ; the spreader is supported by chains 58. As shown in Fig. 1, the pressure in the induction pipe of a tractor 20 is used as a source of vacuum and pipes 41, 42 are led to a connector 40 on the tractor to which the pipe 27 is attached ; alternatively, a separate vacuum pump may be used. The tank 10 may be enclosed in a further tank and the space between them evacuated to insulate the tank 10 against temperature changes. Air under pressure from the outlet of the vacuum pump may be used to force the contents from the tank.
