Abstract

722,440. Hatch covers. DEUTSCHE WERFT AKT.-GES. March 28, 1952, [May 26, 1951; Oct. 29, 1951], No. 8044/52. Class 113 (1). In a watertight closure for metallic hatch covers there are provided along the abutting sides 20, 21 of adjacent covers co-operating members 26, 28 of angle, channel or like section, which abut each other in the closed position of the hatch covers and in one of which is disposed a sealing element 27, and between the co-operating members and the upper faces 22, 23 of the covers there is provided at least one pressure device 30 operable to press the member 26 with the sealing element into engagement with the other co-operating member 28 to ;seal the joint between adjacent hatch cover sides, the member 26 with the sealing element and the pressure device 30 being arranged so that when in. sealing position they do not extend above the upper surfaces of adjacent hatch covers 22, 23. The co-operating members 26, 27. extend up to the outer face of a further co-operating member 133 provided on the end of each hatch coaming and housing a resilient element 34 to form a seal with the edge 35 of the hatch coaming, the upright joint between the ends of the said members on the hatch cover sides being sealed by a closure means 43. Various embodiments of the invention are described and illustrated.
