Abstract

721,940. Ventilating vehicles. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. Dec. 24, 1952 [Dec. 24, 1951], No. 32765/52. Class 137. In a vehicle ventilating and heating system wherein a distributing trunk 10 extends across the width of the vehicle and is connected at one end to a cold fresh air supply passage 14 and at the other end to a fresh air passage 12 in which a heater 11 is disposed, the interior of the trunk 10 is divided by a diagonally extending partition 21 forming two compartments, one of which. receives the cold air flow 17 and the other receives the heatable air flow 16. The heater 11 is inserted in the cooling water circuit of the vehicle engine and is controlled by a valve 13. The passage 14 has a valve 15 which may be operated automatically for instance in dependence on the outer atmosphere, the pressure head or the speed of travel. As shown, the partition 21 is vertical and distribution apertures 22, 23 are provided in both compartments of trunk 10. In a modification only the compartment receiving the heatable fresh air is apertured and the partition, which runs from the lower left hand corner to the upper right hand corner of the trunk, is perforated to allow the two air flows to mix before leaving the trunk. Branches may be fitted to the trunk to provide air for demisting nozzles at the windscreen or side windows.
