Abstract
464,415. Refrigerator cars etc.; nonconducting coverings for heat. HERBERT, F. Oct. 17, 1935, No. 28678. [Classes 29 and 64 (ii)] The body or container of a vehicle, e.g. a motor lorry for transporting food, is cooled by air passing through an open-ended duct 4 having an inner wall of zinc covered with fabric moistened by water supplied from a tank 14 at the front of the vehicle, through a valved-pipe 15 having perforate transverse distributing pipes 17. The outer wall of the duct is provided with cork insulation and lined with waterproof canvas. The body may be formed with open-ended hollow side walls into which the moistened fabric extends. Alternatively, moisture may drip from the fabric into the hollow walls. The sides and back of the body may comprise an inner layer 20, Fig. 3, of zinc, a layer 21 of, wood or material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Plymax," cork insulation 22, laths 23, frame members 24, and an outer sheath of aluminium. The invention may be applied to ships and aircraft.
