Abstract

721,679. Bolts and washers. HISCOCK, R. S., and HISCOCK, F. R. Nov. 26, 1952 [Dec. 4, 1951], No. 28437/51. Class 89 (1). [Also in Group XXII] Bolts, particularly those for attaching articles to conveyor belts, have washers permanently attached to the heads. The countersunk head of a bolt 7 is received in a dished portion 5<SP>1</SP> of a washer 5, Fig. 3, and a square neck 3 of the bolt projects through a corresponding hole in the washer. The parts are secured together by upsetting the corners of the neck at 31. In a modification the neck 8<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 9, is cylindrical and the bolt head has slots 10 to receive tongues 13 punched from the dished part of the washer. The edge of the neck is upset at 8 to secure the parts together. The edge of the washer has a number of projections 6 to engage the belt and prevent rotation relative thereto. In a modification the washer has a continuous sharp turned-down edge for this purpose.
