[Class 80 (i)] Relates to a fastening for wide conveyer belts of the type comprising two U-shaped sheetmetal plates 2a having cut-out portions forming lugs, which may be interleaved to receive a hinge-pin, the limbs of the plates 2a being drawn together by bolts and nuts 5, 5b. According to the invention, the plates have ridges, bosses, or other projections 8 adapted when the bolts are tightened up to embed themselves into the belt ends. In the form shown, ridges of sinuous form are provided which wind in and out among the bolt holes, but straight ridges or rows of bosses between the holes may be employed. The conical heads 5a of the bolts are received in countersunk stamped holes in the plates 2a. The countersinking may be surrounded by an annular bulge, thus forming an annular recess on the inside face of the plate, into which recess the material of the belt is forced. A salient exterior edge is preferably formed round the bulge on the inner face of the plate 2a. To hold the bolts against rotation nibs 7 are turned up from the countersinkings into the holes to engage slots in the bolt heads, or nibs on the bolt heads may engage recesses or slots in the countersinkings. Alternatively, the bolt heads may be of oval, square, or other non-circular shape to engage corresondingly shaped recesses. Oval - headedbolts. are arranged with their longest diameters across the belt. In further forms (i) the bolt heads are circular, but the shank of the bolt is of square or other non-circular shape immediately below the head, to engage a similarly-shaped hole ; (ii) the bolt heads are flat and are serrated on their inner surfaces to engage shallow depressions in the plates 2a.
