A compression refrigerating system is defrosted without interrupting the cooling of a chamber 2 by simultaneously interchanging the positions and functions of the evaporator and condenser coils 7, 8. The chamber wall 1 has an aperture closed by a wall portion 4 rotatable about a vertical shaft 5 and having on each side a shelf 6 carrying the coils 7, 8 and air circulating fans 9, 10 which may have a common or separate electric motors. The change of position is effected by rotating the shelf 6 and the change of function by operating hand valves or by valves 11, 12 automatically acting as the shelf is rotated. The compressor may be mounted on the wall portion 4 or may be stationary and connected to the rest of the system through the shaft 5 which would be hollow.
