Abstract

720,915. Moulding fibrous pulp. SEYDLITZ, W. VON. April 13, 1953, No. 10039/53. Class 87 (2) A porous slab is made from wet peat or other wet fibrous material 3 by placing the material on a perforated press head 1, having a retaining rim IA raising the press head from the Fig. 1 position to the Fig. 2 position, in which latter position there is a free space 11 between the material and a perforated upper press head 7, and passing hot or cold gas under pressure from inlets 12, 13 through the material, whereby the water is expelled from the material and drains off through gauze 17, press head 1 and drain 18. The gas under pressure whirls the fibres upwardly against the perforated plate or wire gauze 16 on the upper press head, and the material fills the space 11, whereby a porous structure is obtained. The degree of porosity may be adjusted by adjusting the height of the space 11, and this height may be varied by varying the height to which the lower press head is allowed to rise. The lower press head is raised by ascent of a table 2 which is raised by hydraulic means 2a and the head carries a sealing frame 9 which enters a groove 8 in the upper press head to limit the ascent of head 1. The frame 9 is supported by a frame 10 which may be vertically adjustable or may be replaced by other frames of different height. The lower head 1 has wheels 4 which run on rails 5 having notches 6 to position the head. During and after charging of head 1 the head may be vibrated to accelerate drainage of water. In modifications: (1) The pressure gas may be introduced through table 2 instead of through head 7; (2) head 7 may be vertically movable instead of or as well as table 2.
