Abstract

1284712 Press filter MAXWELL DAVIDSON Ltd 29 July 1969 [30 April 1968] 20406/ 68 Heading B1D [Also in Division B5] In a filter press for press moulding of concrete blocks, the concrete is placed into block mould 21 placed on the perforated metal endless conveyor belt 23 when outside the press, and the belt 23 is then moved to place the mould 21 and concrete in position in the press as shown in Fig. 3. Ring 10 and diaphragm 19 are then moved downwards by ram devices (11, Fig. 1, not shown) attached to upper plate 8 to press on mould 21, and pressure fluid is introduced through 16 to inflate flexible diaphragms 12, 13 and 19 so that diaphragm 19 presses on the concrete, and secreted water passing through belt 23 is drawn off through grooves in the top of plate 9. Downward sealing pressure is applied to mould 21 both by rams acting on ring 10 and by the fluid pressure acting on shoulder 18. Port 15 provides fluid communication through diaphragms 12 and 13. After pressing, ring 10 is lifted by rams (11), mould 21 together with the concrete block is removed from the press, and mould and block are separated by further rams. These rams then return mould 21 to belt 23 for repeating the process. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown) perforated belt 23 is replaced by an endless movable filter cloth (34) and a further endless movable filter cloth (35) passes adjacent the under surface of diaphragm 19, which undersurface is grooved for the removal of water. For cleaning the cloths (34, 35), brushing devices (42) and washing assemblies (44) are provided. A controller (45) regulates each advance of the cloths, and a clamping device 66 locks the cloths in an operative position.
