Abstract

720,640. Statistical apparatus. POWERS. SAMAS ACCOUNTING MACHINES, Ltd. June 17, 1953 [Sept. 29, 1952], No. 24372/52. Class 106 (1). Apparatus for delivering record cards from a statistical machine including a pair of rotatable feed rollers co-operating to move a card into engagement with a deflector arranged to direct the leading edge of the card downwards towards a support therefor, the support being spring urged towards the deflector, and a stop engageable by the leading edge of the card to align it relative to the support, is characterized by a card-controlling element, in the form of a continuously rotatable roller, disposed between the feed roller and the stop to engage the leading edge of a card issuing from the feed rollers, and move it into engagement with the stop and restrain it from movement away from the stop and support. Fig. 1 shows a sorting machine in which feed rollers 1, 2 bring the cards to a deflector 3 which when activated by wellknown means directs the leading edge of the card towards the stop 7. A downwardly declined portion of the deflector 3 is provided with a fork 8 which supports a spindle 9 and roller 10. By means of the spring 6 the roller is pressed against the second pair of feed rollers 1, 2 and caused to rotate and press each card delivered against the stop 7. In a second embodiment shown in Fig. 2 the last pair of feed rolls 1, 2 in a statistical machine deliver the cards one at a time to a support 4 riveted on a vertically sliding carriage 11 and to a card stop 7. A pair of rollers 10, only one of which is shown, are mounted on a spindle 9 which is driven by belts 17 from the spindle-supporting rollers 2. The rollers 10 by their direction of rotation urge the cards against the card stop 7 and support 4.
