Abstract
720,474. Bending. BILHAM, W. C. Oct. 10, 1952 [Oct. 12, 1951], No. 23873/51. Class 83(4). A machine for bending metal strips or bars comprises a pair of rigid members 1, 7 movable towards and away from each other and which carry respectively a bending member 14 and a co-operating channelshaped anvil 26, the bending member having a curved bending surface whose centre of curvature is eccentric to the fastening means 22 which secure the bending member 14 to the rigid member 1. The bending members are interchangeable and have eccentric bores by which they are mounted on a spigot projecting from a head 16 on the movable member I of the machine. The minimum wall thickness between the base and periphery of each bending member is approximately constant and the latter are so located on the head that this minimum wall thickness is always adjacent the anvil whereby bending members of different diameter may be used without adjusting the machine. The anvil may also be interchangeable or preferably the width between its side walls 27, 28 may be adjusted by packing pieces 33. The machine is generally of the kind described in Specification 633,788 to which reference is made in the Provisional Specification.
