Abstract

720,402. Bushes for bungholes. READS, Ltd. Jan. 30, 1953 [Feb. 4, 1952], No. 2940/52. Class 125 (3). [Also in Group XXII] In sealing a bush to a container a ring of uncured rubber &c. is sandwiched between the bush and container and then a ridge or projection on the bush are projection welded to the container, the heat of welding curing the ring. A pronged threaded steel bush 10 has eight projections 14 uniformly spaced 1 inch apart circumferentially on the flange 13. The end surface 16 of the flange is coated with a ring 17 of uncured rubber having its inner edge # inch out from the projection. During projection welding the bush to a steel container 12 the rubber is cured and spread inwardly about the projections as shown in Fig. 2. The circumferential spacing of the projection may be up to 2 inches or they may be replaced by a continuous rib.
