Abstract

A process for the manufacture of a paint for application to damp surfaces, comprises adding to the paint an irreversible anionic emulsifier absorbed in or adsorbed on a porous physicochemically reactive carrier. The irreversible anionic emulsifier may be ammonium or morpholine linoleate, and the physico-chemically reactive carrier may be silica gel, bentonite or a colloidal clay. The carrier is preferably impregnated with the emulsifier in a polar solvent, such as cyclohexanol, which dissolves both the emulsifier and the paint, and then added to the paint. The carrier may have its cells coated with a dilute solution of nitrocellulose, such as collodion. The paint may include a reducing agent, such as diphenylamine.
