Abstract

719,281. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. BRITISH BROADCASTING CORPORATION. July 31, 1953 [Sept. 11, 1952], No. 22871/52. Class 40 (2). In a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus a non-linear conductor is connected in the circuit between the transducer and the source of oscillations and adapted to distort the waveform of the oscillations for the purpose of neutralizing asymmetry of the waveform resulting from permanent magnetisation of the transducer and stray magnetic fields, means for adjusting the amount of distortion being provided. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, a germanium or silicon crystal 16 is connected across a variable potentiometer 14 in parallel with the secondary winding 12 of a transformer supplying oscillations to a transducer 17. Several other arrangements are described with reference to Figs. 2 to 9 (not shown).
