Abstract

<PICT:0718315/III/1> In a labelling machine provided with two article conveyers 10 on either side of a single intermittently rotatable delivery member 1, labels are gummed and fed from two label stacks 5 to the delivery member 1 in advance of the labelling stations 1A, 1B. Each stack 5 is mounted on arms 6 by which it is lowered towards a square pick-up turret 2 comprising vertical plates 2A spaced apart axially and rotatable intermittently by steps of 90 degrees about a horizontal axis. Rotation of the turret 2 brings each of its faces, formed by edges of the plates 2A, parallel to a face of the member 1 when other faces are in register with a gumming roller 3 taking gum from a trough 4 and with the face of the label stack 5 mounted above the turret 2, one face being in idle position. The gummed edges of the plates 2A withdraw the lowermost label when the stack is lifted by the arms 6. Rotation of the turret 2 brings the label opposite the member 1 and transfer fingers 8, working between the plates 2A, push the label off the plates and transfer it to the member 1. The transfer fingers 8 may have suction openings to maintain control of the label during transfer. Specifications 624,246 and 714,376, [both in Group XV], are referred to.
