717,480. Rangefinders. OPTIQUE ET PRECISION DE LAVALLOIS. Dec. 18, 1952 [Feb. 4, 1952], No. 32143/52. Class 97(1) A short home base range-finder comprises an outer envelope, a supporting plate resiliently mounted therein, the image deviating means being pivoted to the plate and the non-adjustable optical elements being cemented directly to the plate or to parts cemented to the plate, reading means co-operating with the deviating means and, supported by the envelope, an ocular or oculars. A coincidence rangefinder is shown in plan in Fig. 1 and in transverse section in Fig. 3. The ocular 8 is mounted in the casing 20 containing the resiliently mounted supporting plate 1. The renectors 2. 3 are mounted directly on the plate and the objectives 4 5 are mounted in V-blocks 12. Superposed prisms 6, 7 direct the light beams respectively to prisms 9, 10 (Fig. 3) each containing two reflecting surfaces at right angles and mounted on a member 13 secured to the plate 1. The vertex 11 is in the focal plane of the ocular and provides a boundary between the two images. If one of the two images is required inverted the angle between the reflecting faces of the prism 9 is changed to provide an additional reflection at a vertical face. The adjusting member 14 is pivoted at 16 and actuated through a lever 15, by a slidable cam 17 with a scale 18 reading against an index 19. The same method of construction, using a modified ocular and prism system, may be applied to a stereoscopic rangefinder.
