717,310. Vehicle wheel rims. LEMMERZ, P. Oct. 30, 1952 [Oct. 31, 1951], No. 27342/52. Class 144(2) A vehicle wheel rim 10 comprises a cylindrical rim base part 11 with a fixed bead-retaining flange 13 at one side and a channel or gutter 24 at the other side, formed by radially inwardly and outwardly bent portions 21, 22, the edge of the outwardly bent portion 22 extending radially outwardly beyond the rim base 11 to provide an abutment for a loose bead retaining flange 16. The flange 16 is a one or more piece transversely split ring with a tapered bead seat portion overlying the channel 24. To support the ring 16 the base of the channel 24 may be pressed radially outwardly at circumferentially spaced intervals, or tongues 26, Fig. 2, may be cut in the channel wall 22 and pressed axially inwards. The rim base may be welded to a wheel disc which may abut the radially inwardly bent channel wall 21, and studs 27 may be fixed to the rim base 11 to engage in holes or slots in the flange 16.
