717,030. Magnetic recording apparatus. KURZEDER. U. Dec. 31, 1952 [Dec. 31, 1951; Dec. 31, 1951; Dec. 10, 1952], No. 33127/52. Class 40 (2). In a magnetic recording apparatus the record tape 6 is carried on spools 3, 4 in a box 5 from which the tape 6 extends in a loop so that it may easily be inserted between a part 7 carrying a guide wheel 11 and feed roller 10, and another part 8 containing the transducer 9 and pressure roller 10. In one embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2, the transducer 9 and pressure roller- 10 are mounted on an arm 14 which is moved. during a recording operation to bring the transducer 9 into a position in which it presses the tape 6 against a spring-loaded support 16 carrying the guide wheel 11, and the pressure roller 10 presses the tape 6 against the feed roller 12. The support 16 carries an electrical contact arm 18 which breaks contact with a member 20 to stop the apparatus when excess tension occurs, such as may occur when the end of the tape is reached and the tape is attached to its spool. the movement of arm 14 may be controlled by a flexible cable control. The transducer 14 and pressure roller 10 may also be mounted on separate arms and separately controlled, so that the pressure roller 10 may be withdrawn, thereby interrupting the drive and leaving the transducer pressed against the tape, as may be required in a dictation machine.
