Abstract

707,855. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. AGFA CAMERA-WERK AKT.- GES. Sept. 17, 1952 [Sept. 26, 1951], No. 23388/52. Class 40 (2). A reversible cassette 1 for use in a magnetic tape recording apparatus adapted for the provision of sound tracks in both directions has fitted therein two rotatable reels 3, 33 engageable with supply and take-up spindles 4, 34, respectively, in the apparatus and carrying a length of recording tape 2 with ends permanently attached to the reels 3, 33. As the cassette is pressed into position on the apparatus, a projection 1b thereon moves a slide 14, carrying a presence roller 12, so that the latter presses the tape against a capstan 13 and transducer 11. The cassette is prevented from being ,inserted into the apparatus with a full reel over the take-up spindle 34 by means of a spring- loaded pin 8 or 38, on spring arms 5, which is pushed outward through an aperture in the side of the cassette by the tape as it is wound on one of the reels. A slot 35 in the apparatus permits the cassette to be inserted when the full reel is over the supply spindle 4. In modifications described with reference to Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the slide 14 is moved into the operative position by means of the starting switch or the lid of the apparatus.
