Abstract

716,973. Phase changing. STANDARD RESISTANCE WELDERS, Ltd., and REEVES, C. J. Sept. 1, 1952 [Sept. 12, 1951], No. 21439/51. Class 38(2) A single phase load such as a resistance welding machine is fed from a three-phase supply, a balancer unit 14 being provided in order that the load on the three-phase supply is balanced, the unit 14 comprising an inductor-reactor 15 and a capacitor 16 which are connected in delta with the primary winding 10 of the single-phase transformer, the secondary winding 11 of which feeds the single-phase load, an adjustable choke 13; and/or a capacitor, being connected in each of the three phase lines and being ganged together for simultaneous operation. The capacitor 16 may be variable and it may be connected to one of a series of tappings on the reactor 15. The connections to the primary winding 10 may be by way of tappings 17 thereon. The balancer unit 14 may be sealed after it has been adjusted to suit a particular welding machine; the current to the machine thereafter being controlled by the elements 13.
