Class 103(4) A railway double-deck truck for the transport of vehicles comprises a lower flat carrier at normal platform level on the girders of the truck frame and an upper horizontal deck formed by a floor extending across the truck and resting on trusses supported by uprights secured to the outer faces of said girders. The vehicle comprises an upper floor 11 mounted on cross-members or trusses (not shown) secured to uprights 1 attached to the outer . faces of frame girders 2, and a lower floor 5 which is depressed between the vehicle bogies. The lower floor is loaded directly from a loading platform 40 but to enable the upper floor to be loaded a portion 12 thereof is pivotally suported on props 14 for movement between a position (shown in dotted lines) in which it can be loaded with a vehicle from the platform 40. to an upper position (full lines) in which the vehicle can be run off on to the upper floor. The platform is raised and lowered by a winch 19 and cables 17, and it is held in its raised position by catches 26 and 36 actuated by handles 27A and 27B. In a further embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), the movable platform carries rollers that co-operate with vertical guide rails, the platform being moved from one position to another by screw jacks. In further embodiments, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown). the platform is pivoted at its inboard end and is moved from an upper horizontal position to a downwardly inclined position by a winch and cable mechanism or by screw jacks.
