Abstract

715,431. Pneumatic separating. RUHRCHEMIE AKT.-GES. July 31, 1952 [Aug. 4, 1951], No. 19391/52. Class 117 Granular material is freed from dust and like particles in a stream of air, inert gas &c. which may be dried and heated, flowing upwardly in a cylindrical vessel 16. The material is fed down pipe 18 on to a conical spreader 19, of appreciably smaller diameter than that of the vessel 16, and the gas is introduced through annular louvres 22 in an upwardly projecting extension of the feed pipe 20 which is closed by a conical cap 21. Further gas enters through louvres 25 in the side wall of the vessel 16 surrounded by an annular chamber 24 connected to pipe 20 through a branch 23. The gas and dust &c. pass out through pipe 26 and the cleaned material collects at the hopper-shaped bottom of the vessel 16 to be removed through opening 17. In another embodiment the louvres 25, chamber 24 and spreader 19 are omitted and the member 21 acts as the spreader, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a further arrangement, Fig. 1 (not shown), the only gas inlet is through annular louvres in the hoppershaped bottom of the vessel, the louvre surfaces being at an angle equal to or greater than the angle of repose of the material. The spreader is similar to spreader 19, and may be provided with spiral guide surfaces and rotated by a motor. In all the embodiments the diameter of the vessel may increase towards the top.
