Abstract
715,251. Rotary filters. EDELEANU GES. Aug. 22, 1952 [Aug. 25, 1951; Aug. 2, 1952], No. 21202/52. Class 46 In filtration with rotary cell filters which includes the steps of suction, washing, drying and cake removal by a blast of gas there is interposed between the suction and washing zones and also between the drying zone and the cakeremoval zone a zone in which the internal and external pressures on the cell filter layer are equalized without the suction in the suction conduit being interrupted. In Figs 4 and 5 the filter chamber 3 of each cell 2 besides having suction conduits 4 communicating with a control head 5 is provided with a valved pipe 6 communicating with the atmosphere or a source of gas to bring about equalization of pressure on both sides of the filter medium at stages a and b, Fig. 4, of the process between suction c and washing d<SP>1</SP> and between drying d' and cakeremoval e respectively. The valve 14 is opened at these places by contact of an operating lever 15 with fixed cams 16 during rotation of the filter drum 1 and is closed during the remainder of the cycle (except cake-removal) by the reduced pressure prevailing in the filter. In Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) the pipe 6 has no valve but communicates with a second control head located at the opposite end of the drum to the control head 5 and having a connector for inert gas of compressed air for the pressure equalizing zones. For cake removal a further gas connector may be provided in this second control head. To enable liquids to flow rapidly out of the filter chamber each chamber is provided with drainage members 9, 10a, 10b, 11, Fig. 3, which are inclined with respect to one another in the direction of both the longitudinal and transverse axes of the drum: Outlets 8 lead to the suction conduit 4 and inlet' 12 from the pipe 6.
