714,936. Stop motion for gilling &c machines. ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS (COLNE), Ltd. Nov. 3, 1952 [Nov. 2, 1951], No. 25628/51. Classes 120(1) and 120(2) A stop motion for gilling and like textile machines has a channel shaped guide for each sliver, each guide having a pivoted lip mounted at its trailing edge said lip being held parallel or at a small inclination to the base of the channel shaped guide by the sliver passing over it, absence of the sliver allowing the lip to pivot into a second position to actuate a switch. As shown, the channel shaped guide A has a lip B also of channel shape supported on one end of a lever b pivoted on lugs c on a switch box C housed in a recess on the underside of the guide A. The other end of lever b carries a weight b' so that in the absence of a sliver passing over the lip B the lever b pivots and the contact b<SP>3</SP> engages a contact c' in the switch box C thereby operating a stop motion to stop the machine. Several guides may be mounted on a bar transversely of the feed end of the machine and they may be staggered vertically to prevent contact between the slivers passing through the guides. Means may be provided for preventing the lip from moving to operate the stop motion when fewer than the maximum number of slivers are passing through the machine.
