Abstract

714,808. Centrifugal blowers. SCHEID, A. M., SCHEID, E. M., and SCHEID, W. M., [trading as VORWERK & CO.], Aug. 7, 1952 [Aug. 16, 1951], No. 19914/52. Class 110(1) In a vacuum cleaner in which air leaving the impeller passes by way of an annular passage 7 and a discharge connection 8 to a dust collector, the inner wall 10 of the annular passage is tapered towards the impeller. A sewing thread drawn into the cleaner will be thrown off by the impeller into the passage 7 and, if it fails to pass directly into the discharge connection 8. will tend to be coiled around the conical inner wall 10. Provided that the apex angle # of the wall 10 is 20 degrees or more, the component in the direction of the impeller of the force acting on the thread will exceed the friction between the thread and the wall 10, and the thread will move towards the impeller into circles of smaller diameter, whereby it is loosened. After detachment, which is assisted by the sharp air current in the gap 11, the thread is swept by the impeller outflow against the outer wall of the channel 7 and is carried around to the discharge connection 8. A conical wall 9 is recessed so that the back plate 6 of the impeller lies flush with the peripheral part of the wall, which is rounded to merge with the wall 10. The back plate 6 may be flat instead of conical, and the passage 7 may be disposed as shown dotted. The front edges 5<SP>1</SP> of the impeller blades 5 form an angle a of 45 to 90 degrees with the impeller axis.
