Abstract

673,622. Centrifugal separators. ROLLINSON, E. W. (Breuer Electric Mfg. Co.). Oct. 10, 1950, No. 24704/50. Class 23 [Also in Group XXVIII] A vacuum cleaner comprises a filter head 26 having a tangential air inlet 62 communicating through an annular duct 59 with a dirt receptacle 61 from which the air passes through a bag filter 43 supported. by a frame 42, to an outlet 38 connected through a flexible conduit 39 with a centrifugal fan 8 driven by an electric motor 12, the end of the conduit 39, which is carried by an arm 91 pivoted on a pin 78, being movable by a lever 92 from the fan inlet 88 to the fan outlet 89 for blowing air in a reverse direction through the filter for cleaning it or for using the apparatus as a blower. A filter 101 may then be secured to the end of a hose 63 to prevent dirt passing therethrough into the atmosphere. In another embodiment of filter, Fig. 6, a dirt deflector 105 is provided below the filter bag 43 and has radial blades 106, disposed substantially normal to the helical upward path of the air, for deflecting the dirt particles into the receptacle.
