Abstract

714,301. Overhead-travelling hoists on vehicles. DROUARD, J., and BOULARD, G. May 10, 1952, No. 11887/52. Class 78(4) A device for loading rails 17 to and from a truck 1 has a base 3; which is attached to the truck by clamps 5 and which supports a pair of pillars 6 each supporting one end of one of a pair of beams 10 the other ends of which are supported by trestles 9 which can be tilted about either of their supporting feet 8 to allow a rail, suspended from travellers 13 movable along the beams 10, to move past the feet 8 to the side of the truck adjacent the pillars 6. The trestles 9 each carry a roller 11 which engages a pair of cam surfaces 23 on the associated beam so that contact is maintained between the beam and trestle during its tilting movement. The pillars 6 are mounted on the base 3 by means of'pivots 7 which allow the beams to be restored to. a horizontal position when the truck is located on a canted track. Endless chains 16, controlled by a hand crank 15, effect movement of the travellers 13 along the beams, and lifting and lowering of the rail engaging dogs 32 is effected by a winch 12.
