Abstract

The invention comprises S-carboxyethyl-and S - sulphoethyl - 1 - benzylidene - thioiso-semicarbazides of the general formula Y-CH : N-N : C(NH2)-S-CH2CH2-Z in which Y is a benzene nucleus containing in the m- or p-position a lower alkoxy group or a lower aliphatic acylamino group or containing in the m- and p-position a methylene-dioxy group, and Z represents a carboxylic or sulphonic acid group, and their salts. The compounds are prepared by reacting a 1-benzylidene-thiosemicarbazide of the formula Y-CH : N-NH-C(NH2) : S with b -propiolactone, b -bromopropionic acid, b -iodopropionic acid, b -bromoethane sulphonic acid or b -iodoethane sulphonic acid. Examples are given of the preparation of (1) S-b -carboxyethyl - 1 - (p - acetylaminobenzylidene) - thioisosemicarbazide from 1-(p-acetylaminobenzylidene) - thiosemicarbazide and b - propiolactone; (2) S-b -carboxyethyl-1-(p-methoxybenzylidene) - thioisosemicarbazide from 1 - (p-methoxybenzylidene) - thiosemicarbazide and b -propiolactone; (3) and (4) the corresponding p-ethoxy- and m-ethoxy-compounds in similar manner; (5) S-b -carboxyethyl-1-(p-methoxybenzylidene) - thioisosemicarbazide from 1-(p - methoxy - benzylidene) - thiosemicarbazide and b -bromopropionic acid; (6) the compound (5) is prepared but using the b -iodopropionic acid; (7) S-b -carboxyethyl-1-(m,p-methylenedioxy - benzylidene) - thioisosemicarbazide from 1 - (m,p - methylenedioxy - benzylidene)-thiosemicarbazide and b -propiolactone, and (8) S - b - sulphoethyl - 1 - (p - methoxybenzylidene) - thioisosemicarbazide from 1 - (p-methoxybenzylidene) - thiosemicarbazide and sodium b -bromoethane sulphonate.
