Abstract

The invention comprises urethanes of the formula: R-O-CO-NR1-X-Y, wherein R represents a C8-12 alkyl radical, R1 represents a C8 alkyl radical, X represents a C1-3 alkylene radical and Y represents a carboxylic or sulphonic group in free or water-soluble salt form. The compounds are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula: R1-NH-X-Y with a chlorocarbonic acid ester of the formula R-O-CO-Cl. Salts with ammonia, alkali metals and alkaline earth metals are referred to. The compounds have surface-active properties. Specification 31614/38 is referred to.
