713,462. Projectiles. VERWALTUNGSGES. DER WERKZEUGMASCHlNENFABRIK OERLIKON. Nov. 20, 1951 [Nov. 25, 1950; Oct. 19, 1951], No. 27248/51. Class 9(1) A cylindrical or slightly conical driving flange 4 integral with the body of a projectile stabilized by rotation has a rear face perpendicular to or acutely inclined to the axis of the projectile which defines one face of a groove behind the flange which groove is shaped without cutting, e.g. by rolling, from the projectile wall. Further, the depth of the groove is equal to the length of the part 4 to effect on deformation-in the gun a parallel displacement of the flange along a pressure line 6 inclined to the axis of the projectile. The driving flange is annealed by a high frequency induction heating process and is preferably bonderized for anti-friction purposes.
