Abstract

713,365. Insulators. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. March, 4, 1952, [March 6, 1951.] No. 5687/52. Class 36. An insulator is secured to an electrical apparatus by an annular metal clamp in one or more parts which exerts a uniformly distributed force over a conical surface of the insulator, a thin annular shock absorbing cushion having the same thickness throughout being placed between the clamp and the insulator. The metal clamp 4 (Fig. i) has an internal conical face having the same inclination as a conical surface 1 on the insulator, and is formed in two or more sectors which are secured together by bolts 8 around a slightly compressible cushion 5. The clamp is secured to a metal plate 6 by bolts 7, and the base of the insulator rests on packing 2 in a metal element 3. Alternatively the clamp may be made in one piece which may be slipped over the top of the insulator, or the internal diameter of the clamp may be such that it can be slipped over the base of the insulator. In the latter instance two concentric cushions may be used with an interposed metal ring made in two or more sectors. In a further modification a metal ring 12 (Fig. 4) formed in two or more sectors may be placed between the clamp 4, which in this instance is cylindrical, and the cushion 5, the clamp having an internal annular shoulder 13 which fits into a complimentary recess in the ring I2.
