Abstract
713,314. Motor-scooters. STEYR-DAIMLERPUCH AKT.-GES. Dec. 23, 1952 [Jan. 5, 1952], No. 32639/52. Class 136(3) In a motor scooter in which the engine and rear wheel 1 are covered by a common hood, the hood forms a downwardly open hollow body bounded by an edge 3 extending in a horizontal plane and itself carries directly the driver's seat 4, a pillion 5 or luggage carrier and a spare wheel 6, and is readily detachably fixed to the scooter frame at at least three points by quick release locking means with rubber interposed. The hood consists of two symmetrical halves 2, 2a welded together at their flanged edges 9 where they are reinforced by U- section rails 10, Fig. 7. The edge 3 of the hood is reinforced by a U-section rail 7, the edge portion 8 of the hood being reversibly bent and welded to the outer limb of the rail 7, Fig. 8. A tool container 12 with a lid 13 is housed in an opening 1.1 in each hood half 2, 2a. Another opening 14 is provided in the hood half 2 adjacent the engine and is closed by a cover 15 having gill-like apertures 16 and a conical pipe 18, provided with a rubber gasket 17, for the induction air to be supplied to the carburetter. A vertical transverse wall 19 apertured in the shape of an arch is provided between the engine and the rear wheel 1. To fix the hood 2, 2a on the bottom plate 20, three rubber pads 22 are provided which have a longitudinal slot 22a to receive the edge 3 of the hood halves and to support the stiffening rail 7.
