Abstract

713,264. Printing-surfaces and processes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. June 24, 1952 [Aug. 2, 1951], No. 18273/51. Class 100 (2) A method of printing surfaces with multicoloured patterns comprises applying to the surface to be printed a flexible material having an absorbent surface which has had printed thereon a film of a plastic composition pigmented to form the required pattern in reverse, either or both of the contacting surfaces being moist with a solvent for the plastic composition. The reverse pattern is printed on the flexible material from a block or roller having a multi-colour surface layer of pigmented plastic composition. The printed flexible material may be stored in a dry condition in which case before being applied to the surface to be printed it is first moistened on the unprinted side with a plastic solvent. The plastic composition comprises a synthetic nitrile rubber b'ended with a polyvinyl compound, e.g. polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate and/or vinylidene chloride, and a pigment. The flexible material may be paper or a closely woven fabric. The surface to be printed may be a resilient material, e.g. a plasticized polyvinyl compound or a natural or synthetic rubber. The surface to be printed may consist of an absorbent sheet material and may be curved. Specifications 713,248 and 713,250 are referred to.
