Abstract

A continuous process for making lubricating grease compositions comprises heating a concentrate of a soap and lubricating oil in a grease cooker, drying the concentrate, blending with more lubricating oil, milling the blend with finely-divided solid non-soap materials, and cooling and homogenizing the mixture. Soaps referred to are those of the alkali and alkalin earth metals and aluminium; lithium, calcium and aluminium stearates are mentioned. The solid non-soap materials may be carbon black, bentonite and silica. Lubricating oils specified are mineral oils or synthetic oils such as esters, glycols, liquid nitrile polymers and silicones.
