Abstract
A printing paste for mordant printing of textile materials includes a dyestuff and a mordant therefor, a water-soluble salt of a carbohydrate carboxylic acid, e.g. sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl starch or sodium alginate, and a sequestering agent comprising either a substance providing an amino-polyacetate ion of the kind wherein each nitrogen atom which is attached to a plurality of acetate radicles is a tertiary nitrogen atom, e.g., nitrilo-triacetic acid or a mono- or disodium or ammonium salt thereof, and the sodium salt of ethylene diamine tetracetic acid, or a water-soluble sodium salt of a phosphorus oxyacid in which the phosphorus is pentavalent, e.g., sodium hexametaphosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate and sodium tripolyphosphate. Numerous examples are given in which, in addition to the above reagents and the dyestuff, the pastes contain the following mordants and additives: aluminium nitrate, iron alum, chrome alum, calcium acetate, stannous oxalate and tartaric acid; and the pastes are applied to calico.
