712,402. Making ice-cream bars.. S.B. ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. July 24, 1952 [April 24, 1951, No. 9572/51. Class 87 (2) Ice-cream is extruded from a nozzle 4 imto trays 3 moving on a conveyer 8 which moves faster than the extruded ice-cream and is mounted in a framework 5. A trip (not shown) operates a hydraulic, pneumatic or electric device to cause a knife-17 to sever the ice-cream at such an instant that the trailing edge 22 of the ice-cream is deposited slightly forward of the trailing edge 23 of the tray. During filling of the tray, theframework 5 is being moved slowly backwards against a spring 14 by means of a cam 11, until a step 16 on the cam engages a roller 13, when the spring forces the framework. forwards quickly. This sudden forward movement is timed to occur at the instant the bar of ice-cream is cut, so that the leading edge of the next bar of ice-cream is deposited behind the leading edge of the next tray. By providing a space between the ends of the bar and the tray, any ice-cream which melts runs into the tray instead of over the sides into the conveyer. The filled trays are carried off on rollers 24. The:trays are removed' from a magazine 10 by pairs of pegs 9. The extrusion nozzle may be heated to prevent the formation of ice thereon. The nozzle may be subdivided to extrude a double bar of ice-cream. A sheet of waxed paper may be placed in the trays to prevent the ice-cream sticking thereto. The conveyer is moved faster than the extruded ice-cream.
