Abstract

720,458. Cutting shaped articles from webs of dough, artificial resin &c. MAYER, W, Dec. 31, 1952, No. 33036/52. Class 87 (2) A web of dough or artificial resin is fed intermittently along a conveyer 17, Fig. 2, and down between plates 18 where it is cut against an abutment 2 by a cutter 3 reciprocated by a connecting rod 9. As shown, five cutters may operate simultaneously side by side. The scrap is led off by a plate 29 to a box 30, while the cut shapes fall down a slide 28, along a conveyer 33, to a conveyer 60. The web may be fed directly from a rolling machine or it may be stored on a roller mounted on arms 19. As shown for making pretzels, Fig. 11, the abutment 2 and cutter 3 are formed with co-operating mould cavities to receive the dough 5. As the cutter is reciprocated, fingers 20 are moved with the cutter by cams 40 and rods 34 to retain the dough 5 in the cavities in the cutter, while pins 21 are moved faster than the fingers by the rods 34 and levers 43, to eject the central scrap 22 along a slide 24 into a box 25 which both reciprocate with the cutter. As the cutter is retracted still further, cams 49 retract the fingers 20 and pins 21, and the cutter passes over stationary ejectors 26 which eject the pretzel from the cutter. In a modification, the ejectors may be resiliently mounted on the cutter and abut against fixed stops. The ejectors 26 and pins 21 are longitudinally adjustable. The abutment 2 and the cutter 3 may be engraved on the sides facing the web.
