Abstract
1,206,509. Compression moulding. CIMEX Ltd. 24 July, 1969 [26 July, 1968], No. 35723/68. Heading B5A. Hollow articles, of, for example, glass fibre reinforced plastics material, are made by compression moulding a first article between a first male die and a female die, withdrawing the male die with the moulded article adhering to it, indexing the male die and its associated article to a trimming station whilst indexing a second male die into a position over the female die, and finally trimming the first article whilst moulding a second between the female die and the second male die. Subsequently the first male die is indexed back to the female die to mould yet another article whilst the second die and its associated article are indexed to the trimming station. As shown in the Figure, the articles are moulded between alternate ones of a pair of male dies, mounted upon a vertically reciprocable plate 17 rotatable by means of handle 18 about a pivot 16, and a heated female die 2 mounted upon fixed bed 1. Located adjacent the female die is a trimming station 4, incorporating cutters having knife edges 5, 6 (not shown) and 8 and a punch 17. In operation, the plate 17 is rotated to bring die 13 and its associated article over the trimming station and to bring die 14 over the female die. The plate is then lowered and the next article moulded between dies 14 and 2 and the trimming effected upon the article carried by die 13. Subsequently the plate is raised, the trimmed article being retained by the trimming station for subsequent removal, and then rotated to bring die 14 and its associated article over the trimming station and the now empty die 13 back to the female die in preparation for the moulding of the next article.
