Abstract
1,149,523. Trimming. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd., and R. W. DAVIES. 15 June, 1966 [15 June, 1965], No. 25278/65. Heading B5A. A machine for trimming surplus material (W 1 , Figs. 1-4, not shown) from a container (C, Fig. 5, not shown), e.g. formed from a flat sheet, comprises a knife 92, Fig. 10, having cutting edges forming the periphery of an area of similar shape to the container crosssection but smaller, a die-plate 99 having an aperture of similar shape to the container cross-section, but larger, the knife being able to enter the container so that the die-plate 99 forms a counter-edge with which the knife edges may coact to effect cutting, the edges of the plate being in the plane of trimming. In operation, large shots (S, Fig. 1, not shown) are fed by support (7, Fig. 6, not shown) from magazine (1) in which they are held by fingers (9). After feeding to guillotine (2, Fig. 7, not shown) by pusher (6) and pusher pawl (28) and cut thereby into smaller shots (S 1 , Fig. 2, not shown), they are fed to trimmer (3) by puller pawl (29) and grippers (50). The smaller shots (S 1 ) are then raised from line X-Y, Fig. 10, to cutting position by anvils 93, and supported internally by members 95, 105. Simultaneously, the apertured die-plate 99 is raised so that knives 92 coact with the counter-edges thereof. Knives 92 are supported by frame 57 which moves longitudinally and crosswise to effect cutting by following around the periphery of the articles. Support members 105 are fixed to frame 60 which follows the movement to support the articles which slide over the anvils 93, support members 95 being movable vertically by means of cylinder 100 which is also mounted on frame 60.
