Abstract
712,240. Pile fabric-making apparatus. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. March 13, 1952 [April 11, 1951], No. 8356/51. Class 140 In apparatus for electrostatic production of pile fabric having.upper and lower electrodes, means for passing adhesive-coated backing material in contact with the upper electrode, and means for delivering pile-forming fibres to the space between the electrodes, the upper electrode comprises spaced. conductors adapted to ensure that at the position at which the backing material leaves the first conductor and that at which the backing material meets the final conductor substantially straight line contact is obtained in a direction transversely of the direction of travel of the backing material. Backing material 26 passes from a supply roll to licking device 28 for adhesive application, and thence in contact with upper electrode 11. The electrode 11 has parallel horizontal conductor rods 20a, 20b, and hexagonal conductor beater rod 21, projecting below the plane of the lower surfaces of rods 20a, 20b, and rotated to cause vibration. of the backing material as described in Specification 704,456, which rods form the line contacts with the backing material.. Flat or curved plates 23a, 23b are also provided above the plane of contact with the backing material of adjacent pairs of conductors, to provide the requisite field strength without contacting the backing. All the plates and rods 20a, 20b, 21, 23a, 23b are connected (not shown) to one pole of generator 24, the other pole of which. is connected to the lower electrode 10. The pile fibres are fed from hopper 16 by distributing roller 18 on to driven conveyer 12 which is in contact with electrode 10. The pile fabric passes from electrode 11 through drying chamber 30 to take-up roll 35.
