Abstract
1,063,677. Coating apparatus. ELOFLOCK OBERFLAECHENVEREDLUNG G.m.b.H. Aug. 25, 1965 [March 5, 1965], No. 36459/65. Heading B2L. In applying flock to the outer surface of hollow objects which have been coated with adhesive the objects are passed between electrodes in a series of electrostatic fields, flock material is supplied to each field and the objects are subjected to electrical potential in each field and earthed between successive fields. In the arrangement shown objects 1 are supported on holders 2 from arms 5 carried on and moved by chain 30 through a series of flocking stations A, B, C. Each arm 5 has a contact 6 which slides on guide rail 7 the latter being divided into conductive sections 7' at the flocking stations and nonconductive section 7" between said stations. The holders 2 are rotated by suitable drive means from a stationary rack (36) (Fig. 3, not shown). The flock material is supplied from above each station (Fig. 2, not shown) from a box (11) and is brushed through a screen by brushes (17) on a driven belt (16), on to a conveyer (10b) which conveys the flock to beneath the path of the objects. A grid electrode (100) is positioned between said conveyer and the path of the objects and a plate electrode (37) is positioned above said path. Surplus flock material is conveyed into hopper (19) and fed back via pneumatic conveyer tube (24) into the box (11). The air is blown through the tube (24) by fan (21) and is maintained at a desired humidity by a water atomiser assembly (25) under the control of a hygrometer (26) in the box (11). To prevent flock straying from one station to an adjacent station grid electrodes 12, 13, 13', connected to an alternating voltage, are positioned between the stations and to screen the boxes 11 against the action of electrical fields, grid electrodes 14 also connected to an alternating voltage are disposed at the outlets from said boxes. The electrodes at each station may be at different potentials appropriate to the flock material being applied at the respective station.
