712,026. Sliding windows. BECKETT, LAYCOCK & WATKINSON, Ltd. July 14, 1953 [Oct. 13, 1952], No. 25598/52. Class 20 (3) In a sliding window of the kind often required for ships, in which on reaching the closed position the sash may, by continued operation of the handle be moved normal to its plane so that the glass is pressed against a sealing gasket, the glass is retained by lugs and can be slid out of the sash by supporting its lower edge and withdrawing the sash to the open position while the glass remains over the window opening. Racks 5 slide along detachable bearing strips 11 mounted on a flange 23 of the fixed frame and the sides of the sash also comprise glass carriers 12 attached to racks 5 by ball jointed parallel links 13. Lugs 16 at the top corners of the glass 4 hold it against parts 12a of carriers 12. The glass rests at its lower end in a glazing channel 17 which is supported at its ends on platforms 15 at the base of carriers 12, or alternatively, when the glass is to be removed, on brackets 22 while the racks 5 and carriers 12 are moved down. The lugs 16 which must be removed prior to the removal of the glass bear, when the window is closed, on balls or rollers 20 while seating pressure is applied through links 13 by handle 10. A spring 14 pulls the glass away from sealing gasket 3 as the sealing pressure is released and holds it up so that the links 13 assume the indication shown in Fig. 3.
