Abstract
Hydrocarbon oil is dewaxed by mixing the oil with a solvent which dissolves the oil at the dewaxing temperature, chilling to crystallize waxes, filtering to obtain a primary wax filter cake, separating a soft wax fraction therefrom by repulping the wax cake in the solvent at a temperature 10-40 DEG F. above the dewaxing temperature, but not at a temperature greater than 25 DEG F., and combining the separated fraction with the dewaxed oil. Solvents referred to are petroleum naphtha, gasoline, a mixture of light hydrocarbons, methylene chloride and a mixture of an aliphatic ketone, such as acetone, methyl ethyl ketone or methyl isobutyl ketone and an aromatic hydrocarbon such as benzol or a mixture of benzol and toluol. The filtrate containing the soft wax fractions is preferably recycled to the primary dewaxing operation, or may be mixed directly with the dewaxed oil; alternatively part is recycled and part mixed with the dewaxed oil.
