711,356. Cleaning powders. HENKEL & CIE GES. May 30, 1951 [Oct. 1, 1948], No. 12650/51. Class 91 A cleaning powder comprises a major proportion of a water-insoluble, pulverulent mineral substance and a minor proportion of.one or more water-soluble substances, the grain size of each particle in the mixture being less than 0.3 mm. and the mean particle size of the watersoluble substances being less than that of the water-insoluble substance. The water-insoluble mineral may be quartz flour. kaolin, pumice stone flour, marble flour, rouge, chrome green or mineral clays. The water-soluble substance is preferably an alkaline-reacting salt such as sodium carbonate, bicarbonate, di- or triphosphate, pyrophosphate, metaphosphate, hexametaphosphate or tripolyphosphate, but other substances may be used such as amido sulphonic acid, urea nitrate, oxalic acid, salts of polycarboxyamines, sodium sulphate or sodium chloride. Capillary active substances may also be present in the mixtures and they may be anionic, cationic or non-ionic. Such substances include soaps, alkyl aryl sulphonates, sulphonates of olefins or paraffins and fatty alcohol sulphates. The powders of the invention may be prepared by grinding the water-soluble component in the presence of the water-insoluble component or by dusting the dry water-insoluble component into a tower in which the atomization drying of a complete as possible solution of the water-soluble components is taking place.
